Loren E. Pedersen, Ph.D.

Biography


Loren Pedersen, Ph.D. is an unusual clinical psychologist in that he is not only a certified Jungian psychoanalyst, much of his practice also includes treating chronic physical, psychophysiological and chronic pain problems. He holds a diplomate in Pain Management and is certified as a biofeedback therapist. His many years of interest in men’s psychological and spiritual issues culminated in two books on male psychology. His nearly thirty years of experience include psychoanalytic therapy, men’s groups, biofeedback, and pain and stress management. He has a private practice in Walnut Creek, California.

In addition, Dr. Pedersen has done training consultations for Hospice groups, hospitals, and teaching institutions, as well as taught graduate and undergraduate psychology. He has lectured widely on topics as diverse as men’s psychology, psychophysiology, biofeedback, and chronic pain management. He has taught many workshops for professionals and the general public.

Dr. Pedersen has authored two nonfiction books: Dark Hearts: The Unconscious Forces That Shape Men's Lives (1991), and Sixteen Men: Understanding Masculine Personality Types (1993). In addition to the English versions, his first book was published as a hardcover in Germany as Das Weibliche im Mann. His second was also published in Germany as Manner Sind So.

Dr. Pedersen is an accomplished stained glass and fused glass artist. His glass work has won numerous awards in professional competitions and has been featured in glass magazines. He also enjoys shooting photography, especially of European architecture.

He is a member of the Author’s Guild, The Association for the Advancement of Psychoanalysis, The Biofeedback Society of California, the Association for Applied Psychophysiology and Biofeedback, and the American Academy of Pain Management.
